Camping Through the Years
Immigrants coming to California often slept outdoors alongside their covered wagons or in berths on crowded steamships. After the newcomers built homes and recovered from their adventures, the trails they had blazed and watercourses they had traversed beckoned once more. Camping, hiking and cooking under the stars became recreational rather than essential. Enjoy these images of California state parks visitors camping through 150 years.
